Osteopathy

By diagnosing and treating damaged structures in the body such as ligaments, joints, muscles or nerves, Osteopathy assists with the structural integrity, maintenance and overall health of the body.

Consultation

Each visit may last for approximately 30 minutes. This may vary according to the nature of the problem.

During the consultation the Osteopath will take a full case history. Following this, the Osteopath will examine you using various diagnostic methods found in conventional medical practices. Various orthopaedic, physical and systemic tests are used depending on the symptoms and differential diagnosis. Where required, X-rays or MRI scans maybe requested.

The examination usually requires you to undress to your underwear so that the Osteopath is able to locate the problem areas and fully assess you posturally and mechanically.

Once a diagnosis is reached, the Osteopath can decide if they can treat the problem. An estimate of the required treatments will be given where possible.

Treatment

Treatment received will depend on the nature of the injury and is therefore adapted for each patient. These methods range from very gentle cranial techniques, to slightly stronger techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint articulations and stretches, to even stronger techniques such as manipulations.

In addition to this treatments can also consist of ultrasound, interferential and dry needling.
